I graduated fromf our local university, University of the Ozarks, in 1993 with a Bachalors of Science in 1-6 elementary. I have attended many professional development workshops, over the 22 years I have been teaching, that have strenghtened my abiliies and knowledge of teaching subject matter to classroom management.
I started teaching at Saint Joseph’s Catholic School, in Paris, Arkansas, in December 1993. I taught 5th and 6th grade, all subjects, for six years. Then in 1999, I transferred to Clarksville Public Schools, in Clarksville, Arkansas, as a 2nd grade teacher for two years. I transferred to 4th grade science, at the same district, for one more year. Finally, I landed at Lamar in 2004, where I started as the 4th grade Language Arts teacher for nine years. From there, I moved to 3rd grade math/science for three years. This brings me to today, where I have been the 5th grade math teacher for the past two years. Even though I have enjoyed teaching all the subjects at the elementary level, math is my passion, and I throughly enjoy teaching it every day!
I am the mother of two of the most extraordinary adults I’ve ever known. My daughter is an awesome mother and wife. My son, now deceased, servered eight years in the United States Army. I am a grandmother to two of the most awesome children on earth. They are my heart and soul. My dog, Tinker Bell, also has a large part of my heart, which my students will learn throughout the year.
As much as I love teaching and interacting with every single one of my students, past and present, I have a love for fishing and woodworking. I always seem to be able to tie fishing into many math lessons throughout the year. My students will quickly learn that wood working is also a major part of my life “outside of school”. I’ve made everything from small shelves, barn doors, to countertops. One of my bucket list goals is to build an entire house. No one is born with math skills, but everyone can learn them.
